Hike to the Wind Caves and Stuff

This week we had some fun adventures. On Wednesday we took the girls to Lagoon. London's favorite ride was the Merry-go-round. Lizzie's favorite ride was the Puff kid roller coaster. David loves the Sky ride. And I enjoyed laughing my head off on the Scrambler as London and Lizzie squished me to the side. Yesterday (Saturday) morning David and I had plans for a 30 mile bike ride, but ended up on the same course as an official fund-raising bike ride for MS. We drafted off a group of cyclists and ended up going 47 miles instead. Then last night we hiked as a family up to the Wind Cave, or as some people call it, the Witches Castle.
We forgot to bring our camera, so a nice couple took some with theirs and emailed them to us.

This is a view looking out toward Logan Canyon. We decided that both girls are much better hikers when they are paired off, one with Mom and the other with Dad. Unfortunately, they do great with Dad and horrible with Mom. I think that I have "whine for me and I will carry you" written all over my face. Dang it!

On the weekend of June 12-14 we went to Wyoming. On Saturday David, Brent and I went on a shivery bike ride around Star Valley, passing the darlingly weird Al Pacas. Later we headed to the Tetons and hiked up to the Phelp's Lake overlook with Grandma and Grandpa. (My favorite lake at the Tetons) We ate a picnic at the top and even met a new friend who we shared our lunch with.

This is the shot where nobody made a face. (Phew-that's hard to pull off)
The first of us to make it to our destination. After our hike Brent, Margaret, and I rode our bikes from a little North of Taggart Lake parking lot to Jenny Lake. We planned to do a round trip but got pelted by the rain and quickly changed plans.
We stayed at the Star Valley cabin over the weekend. Poor Daisy stayed there all day while we did our hike.
Sunday was Lizzie's actual birthday, but we planned the party for the next day. Grandma made her a cake out of chocolate Zingers with straw candles and torn Swedish fish for the flames-delish!

Lizzie's Birthday (Four years old!)

Lizzie Jane Mortensen turned four on June 14, 2009. The following day we had this family Birthday party. The guests were Grandma and Grandpa Hirschi, Grandma Margaret, Grandpa Brent, Uncle Alex, cousin Taggart, and of course us. We had a Lizzie quiz where people had to guess her favorite movie, color animal, outfit, candy, thing to do, game, song, place, food, boyfriend, cake, type of dance, and holiday. We had video recorded of her telling the answers.

Cousin Taggart (boyfriend) helped Lizzie blow out her candles.

Swimming Lessons

London and Lizzie enrolled for a week of level one swimming lessons at the Sky View High swimming pool during the week of June 15th-June 20th. They were so excited on the first day because they got to go swimming. The next day however, they were a little reluctant. The teacher had made them put their head under the water. They were not to happy about that. I think that they still have a lot of fun though. They play games such as ring around the rosies, pancakes, motor boats, submarines, airplanes, jump off the edge, etc. Lizzie didn't have the guts to jump off the edge. I didn't think London would go for the plunge. But she finally decided it looked fun and went for it.

Playing Submarines. The girls put their heads back in the water. This is a modified version of the submarine which is really putting your whole head under. Our girls and the little boy behind them refused to go under.
